Character Species: Human (1/4 Vulcan)

Character Family:

Caleb Reyes (Father - Deceased): Former Head Chairman of Reyes Colonial Industries. He was assassinated along with the entire board in the Romulan Neutral Zone when Kali was seventeen. Official news sources claim Orion pirates were to blame, but within the colonial circuit rumors abound that that the company's sketchy colonization efforts in neighboring star systems provoked the Romulans. Kali was not very close to her father, but she did take his death hard enough to blow off the grid.

(Mother - Unknown): Not much is known about Kali's biological mother, but she was half-Vulcan and her relationship with Kali's father was strictly business. She wasted little time signing over parental rights to Kali's father after her birth. Caleb's refusal to speak about her was a prominent hurdle between him and his daughter's relationship.

Grey Daniels (Godfather):
Retired Starfleet Officer employed in private sector security for Reyes Industries. He and Kali's father go back decades and was there for her birth christening and everything after. She considers him the closest she ever had to a father and was the reason why she was enlisted into Starfleet.

Character Bio: She was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. With her father's juggernaut company in colonial affairs blooming in latinum, Kali often followed along the steps of the other wealthy and privileged children but found something lacking with their company. Without proper mental guidance, Kali often had behavioral problems growing up thanks to her minuscule Vulcan biology, many of which came from intensified emotional outbursts. This typically translated to physical confrontation with her peers. She was spitfire spoiled - an energetic puppy without an outlet to sink her mental teeth into.

In her early years, her growing boredom and lack of mental stimulation caused her to start disassembling and tweaking household appliances as early as five years old. Her caregivers ended up beside themselves with disassembled replicators and erratic environmental controls; the entire lavish household became a glitchy mess. This caused more problems between her and her busy father, who had no idea how to deal with a child, let alone one that was part Vulcan. Her father refused to bring in a Vulcan teacher to calm her mind for reasons unknown, though her godfather implied bad blood between Shi'kahr and RCI.

Instead Kali was sent off to many early learning academies - preferably courses in mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering - in the hope she could be weaned out of her tinkering phase. At the age of 15, she had already devoured her entire academia core for her age group and was encouraged to start taking pre-requisite Starfleet Academy courses in Memory Alpha. With news of her father's death, she dropped off the radar at the age of 17 and escaped to Risa for a year-long celebration of 'social networking'. By the time her godfather located her, she had traveled off-world and worked as a mechanic for a colony illegally squatting in Tellurite territory. She was arrested, it caused a scandal, and Daniels made sure she did her community service fixing replicators and weather systems until he pulled enough strings to expunge the charge from her record.

After Starfleet's Engineering Corps picked apart the hastily made but effective anti-aircraft cannon during her incarceration, they offered her a position of study that she could not refuse - literally it was a part of her sentencing. Unable to resist the chance to get her fingers into circuitry again, she eagerly accepted. It was better than jail.

Sample post:

He found his goddaughter sitting in the brig of a Federation ship disguised as a tiny cargo freighter. She was cuffed and her legs bounced like she was waiting at a Deltan charity gala instead of a prison. Instead of fancy gowns and pheromone inhibitors, she looked like a warp core just blew up within a kilometer from her with dark hair lightly tied and askew, and her dark complexion spattered even more with dirt. The coveralls that protected her on the colony's harsh sun was caked in mud and phaser fire. She looked up from the cuffs around her wrists and beamed at him like everything around her was just a mild inconvenience.

Maybe to her it was.

"Do you know who manufactures Federation-issued restraints?" she asked when he approached. "Early 2300's. Fell out of popularity by 2352. Cheap, horribly designed, but does its function well."

"That's not important," he replied stiffly.

"I beg to differ." She raised her wrists up in demonstration. "Altered aluminum-steel alloy, no impurities - it helps avoid unnecessary allergic reactions with various species-"

"Kali."

She ignored him for the numbers gleaming behind his head and then to the angles and formulas trickling down at the restraints that rubbed against her skin. "Three exploits," she discovered. "Two of which can be done by pushing on a counterbalance. It's really sad, but it's deliberate."

It was like she was five years old again and patiently explaining how a sub-space communications array worked. Resigned, he decided to play along in the hope her erratic thoughts would stop and catch its breath. Sometimes it did. "Deliberate."

Kali finally focused on him and smiled. "Yeah. That's right. If the prisoner needs medical attention... or if Mr. Officer over there forgot the code," she gestured to the stiff security officer outside the brig. "That's why it's no longer issued. A person with an IQ of a grapefruit could get out of these."

Her godfather called out her name, this time in warning but Kali decided to twist her hands until it became almost unbearably painful, then thumped her wrists hard onto her lap to prove her point. The mechanism gave a loud click and slide before it tumbled with a clatter to the floor.

With a sigh, Grey palmed his eyes.

"Oh wow, did you see that?" she asked the advancing officer eagerly. "Wow, that was almost like magi- OW. Okay, okay!" He pulled her up roughly. "Oof! Take it easy, big guy - there's enough of me to go around, I promise."

The officer looked to Grey for guidance. "Is she always this glib?"

"Part of her charm," Grey answered with a tight smile.
