I have arrived on the Gibson and even met with the acting CO. Zuriel Soreka is an El-Aurian, according to his medical records. He's a pilot by trade and has been thrust into command duty. Like a lot of pilots, he seems very confident, cocky almost. In this regard he is everything Captain Krol is not. Whereas Krol was aloof, and self-effacing, Lieutenant Commander Soreka smiles a lot and cuts a dashing figure in his uniform. Krol wasn't always morose and self-deprecating, only 99% of the time.
This isn't a disparagement against either man. It's just a difference in command style. For example, in my weeks and weeks on the Gettysburg I had only met Commander Price briefly and Captain Krol not at all. Maybe it is because not too long ago he was only a lieutenant and the CFO, but Soreka's style seems a lot more open-handed and less prone to delegate.
I'm also pleased to be reunited with Ensign Rennan Protheus, an old comrade from the Gettysburg. We only met briefly there, but it is nice to see a familiar face amidst all the strangers.
As far as the USS Gibson itself goes, time will tell if I can settle into this kind of Spartan atmosphere. I miss the plush Gettysburg already, but I feel this transfer will ultimately be good for me.
