" So how many dead? "

With this attack and the bombing on the compound on New Vancouver? 72.
Scott sighed and held his face in his hands. This was the second attack in as many weeks against Iconian populations on federation worlds. He was sat in his ready room, feeling tired. His face carried more stubble than it usually did, and his eyes had bags under them.
What do you make of this? these attacks aren't random anymore, there being more frequent and effective. Someone's deliberately trying to take out entire groups of Iconians.
The familiar face shared his concerns, former lieutenant Julien Brack had left starfleet at the end of the Iconian war, but he still kept in touch with his former CO. They where both trying to ensure that the Iconian seperatists who helped end the war where being treated fairly. Instead the opposite was happening.
" Nothing we can do just now. We have to keep them laying low, for a race that's infertile, these losses are going to start having serious repercussions. The Discovery is heading deeper into the beta quadrant, but try to keep me apprised. look after yourself Julien. "
And you.
With that the screen faded to black. Scott sighed. This was going to be another one of those days.

Reece sat in the Captain's chair while Bradley was away. he was running through the duty roster and system reports.

He finalised the duty roster and uploaded it to the ship's log. He placed it in a slot beside his seat and started on the system reports.

Everything seemed to be fully functioning with just some minor fluctuations in the warp field and intermix manifolds. He looked through it, but it never made sense. He really should've taken an engineering course.

He asked for a report from all the bridge stations. "Is anything happening, people??"

Klein rubbed his eyes, stiffling a yawn. He hadn't slept well at all the previous evening. Another very unpleasant dream had woken him more than once that evening. Who ever said dreams of our fathers were supposed to be a good thing? Willing himself to stay upright and not lean back into the comforting contours of the chair at the helm, he grimaced as he forced himself to focus on his panel.

He jumped slightly at Commander Thompson's unexpected question, hoping it didn't show too much. A quick survey of his panel showed that the ship was on it's proper course and speed. Then again it would take quite the attention lapse to mess up the autopilot. Or a very big systems failure, which in his short time in deep space he had already had more experience with than he'd like.

"Navigation," Klein formally reported his station before giving the status report, "on proper course and speed, all systems properly answering."

Kakarot

Kakarot was led on one of the biobeds on the edge of the room. He was running through various reports of minor problems on the ship.

Humans were incredibly frail. Always coming in for one thing or another.

"How does such a fragile race evolve so far?" He whispered to himself. He noticed the PADD start to shake in his hand. He sighed and sat up, placing the PADD down and massaging his hand. He couldn't afford to take another dose of medicine.

Once he had roughly sorted it out, he went back to reading to the PADD. Crewman Deacon had been in 5 times in the past 4 days. "Unbelievable."

He looked up as the door opened. Two people walked in, one holding the other as they nursed their arm. Kakarot sighed and walked over. "What's the problem?"

"We were practising some kendo, and I sort of hit her arm." The companion said.

"Humans." He sighed once more before leading them over to a bed. "Take a seat."

He walked over to the table and grabbed a vial of Hypoxaline*. Filling it to 10 CCs he injected it straight to her arm.

He rolled up her sleeve and took a look, running a medical tricorder over it. "Well the bone isn't broken, so you don't need anything major.  He grabbed another vial of Nycanthazine* and filled it to 10 CCs, placing it on the affected area.

"There you go. It shouldn't hurt anymore and it shouldn't bruise up. If it does, come back here straight away." He watched as they walked away. "And goes easy on the kendo."

As the door closed he cleaned up the vials. "You're welcome...."

At this moment Scott appeared on the bridge, He had a padd in hand which contained the crews new orders.

" Commander Thompson, have the senior staff assemble in the observation lounge. Time to brief you all on our next assignment. "

Archangel glanced up from her work as she heard the communication come in for her to join the senior officers in the observation lounge.  For a moment, she thought over everything she had done over the last week, looking for something that she might have done wrong before she caught herself.  Whatever the meeting was about, she would find out when she got there.  Putting aside the PADD where she had been working on a more efficient warp core calibration, she headed for the turbolift.

She paused outside the observation lounge to straighten her uniform, making sure that she was presentable.  Just because it was a meeting didn't mean that she didnt have to make a good impression on those present.  After all, it was the senior staff.  She stepped through the door, glancing around at all those present.
"Lt. junior grade T'Koris reporting as ordered, sir."

As all the important people left, Klein allowed himself a brief stretch of his body and arms. He briefly pondered a small amount of resentment of not being privy to the important details of the meeting all the people with pips would be attending, but it wasn't like he wouldn't find out soon enough. That was a plus side about your duty station being on the bridge, after all. A look at the stars streaking by on the view screen did remind him he had one of the finest views on the ship.

His control panel indicated everything was normal. Thrusters and engines were all responding appropriately, they were on course, and there were no large objects in their path. That was the downside about his job. He did spend a lot of empty hours in his chair. Too bad it didn't recline. A glance around the bridge showed only junior officers and enlisted men. He did briefly wonder who was in command on the deck. With a mental shrug, Klein concluded it didn't matter. If a fleet of Tribble warships or a killer cosmic phenomena suddenly struck them he was sure the people in the meeting might just come out and see what was happening. It wasn't like he needed to be told to keep the ship away from such things anyways.

Archangel quietly took a seat at the bottom of the table, taking out a PADD in order to take notes if necessary.  Curiosity scrabbled at the back of her mind.  What was going to happen?  What was their next mission?  She tapped a nail on her PADD, hoping that it wasn't going to be as disturbing as the last one.

At this point all of the senior staff, and a couple of junior officers had arrived. Scott marched in and wasted no time bringing up the monitor for all to see.

" Good morning everyone, I trust we're all wide awake and ready to go? Good. "

He opened the mission dossier, It had been sent by Admiral Kawolsky only a few hours ago.

" What we have ladies and gentlemen, is a good old fashioned mystery. One of our long range sensor hubs has picked up what appears to be a ship of vast size  in the Soltair system. it's a remote system colonized only 30 years ago. This vessel matches records of a vessel sighted only a few times in the last 100 years or so.

The Admiral want's us to investigate, find out if this is indeed the ship that's been skipping around for the last century, and learn everything we can about it. Including trying to establish contact if possible.

We could just be chasing shadows here, but I'd like to think that if anyone is going to unravel this mystery, it's us. Can I assume your interest is piqued? "

"As long as it's not another ghost ship, it get's my vote." Reece said, placing his hands on the table.

"You say it's been skipping around for the past 100 years. I take it they'll know about everything then, and we won't have to give any inhabitants a quick 100 year refresher. Starfleet's Guide to the Galaxy and what not?"

" Well, we're not exactly sure. There's been fleeting contact with the ship, the specifics are a little fuzzy. But here's what we have. "

Scott brought up the documents which had all the information starfleet had on this mysterious ship.

" The first documented Sighting  was made by a Klingon Bird of Prey in 2291. It contained detailed sensor readings of the vessel. It's almost ecliptic in shape being 1500m x 500m x 200m. Hull is an organic compound, though scans can't penetrate it, Same goes for transporters. Upon decloaking to use it for target practice, the alien vessel sent a comm transmission that filled every speaker and comm system with a static like noise that damaged the hearing on some and overloaded all comm systems to the point of physical damage. Considering this an attack, the Klingons fired. No damage was done to the vessel, which seemed to regenerate almost immediately. A pulse fired from it, though no weapon port was detected, which struck the Klingon ship, overloading it's electrical systems and disabling them entirely. The alien vessel then escaped at high warp, disappearing from long range sensors entirely. The Klingons spent days repairing their damage before they could get underway again. "

More downtime for the pilot. Sometimes Crewman Adolph Klein thought that all the automation did take the soul out of flying. But there was nothing he could do about that. Still, like all enlisted men he did appear quite busy monitoring his console, in case any officer was looking his way. In reality he was playing computerized Solitaire, a time honored downtime of many people at computer panels for centuries. Klein allowed himself a small smirk, he was on the verge of winning assuming he could find that annoying Seven of Clubs, he could run through the entire deck instantly after that.

When Commander Thompson's voice summoned him he flinched briefly. Set course for the Soltaire system? Solitaire system? Was he busted? He minimized his oh so diverting game and called up the navigation files for said system. Indeed there was a Soltair system. Coincidence? Maybe. Either way, he had to reply quickly if he was to avoid rousing suspicion. He tapped his comm badge in reply.

=/\="Aye Commander," Klein responded to the order,  "Course set for Soltair system, engaging at Warp Six"=/\=

Having made the appropriate course correction and speed adjustment, Klein briefly mused on resuming his interrupted game. But tempting fate wasn't his style, and besides? Maybe something from the magic important people meeting was coming to bear fruit. That might very well keep him occupied. It wouldn't take them too long to get to Soltair either way.
