The straight-faced Moval stepped down from the pad.

"Lieutenant Commander?"  he asked, seemingly surprised. "Where is your Captain?"

Cortez shared a quick nervous glance with Thompson before responding.

"I am in command of this vessel, Ambassador."

Moval remained straight-faced, as if releasing a single ounce of emotion would kill him.

"I see..."  he muttered, sighing with discontent  "Very well. Just show me to my quarters. I am eager to get some rest before the conference."

Cortez could see the Ambassador wasn't happy having him in command of the Churchill, but there was nothing he could do about it.

"Of course. I must get the ship underway, but Mr Thompson here will show you to our VIP quarters."  he replied  "Will any of your staff be joining you, Ambassador?"

"Very good"  before turning to Thompson  "Lieutenant"

Reece looked at Cortez, and bowed his head slightly. "Sir."

He turned back to the Romulan. "This way please." He didn't wait for an acknowledgement but turned on his heel an walked out. He was relieved that the Ambassador followed straight away.

"So..." Reece said as they walked to the turbolift. "Peace talks huh?" He noticed the Ambassador staring at him, still revealing so emotion. "It's funny isn't it. How things play out."

The two of them stepped into the turbolift. "Deck 4."

The turbolift doors closed as Moval took his position alongside Lieutenant Thompson.

"Lieutenant, my government believes now is the right time to begin full-scale peace talks with the Federation - a view I happen to share. But that does not mean I have to engage in, what do you call it? "Small" talk."

Steadfastly facing the turbolift doors, he continued.

"I happen to agree that peace between the Romulan Star Empire and the Federation would be mutually beneficial, but it is my personal belief that what does not require saying, should not be said. No personal offense intended, of course."

After ensuring the transporter technician was ready to beam over the Ambassador's staff, Cortez had headed out to the bridge. Once they were onboard, he was keen to progress onto their objective at the quickest speed possible.

"What really?" Reece continued. "You don't want to talk about the fact that you have been a pain in the proverbial backside, and now that you're all homeless you're taking advantage of our hospitality. Because... being a human... I'm quite fond of 'small' talk."

Reece continued to stare at the door, with a small smirk.

"Mutually beneficial? So while you get protection, supplies and shelter. What are you going to offer Starfleet?"

Moval was not impressed and for the first time since boarding the Churchill, it was noticeable. The turbolift soon came to a stop and the doors swished open to reveal a relatively quiet corridor.

"I think I can find my own way from here. Lieutenant"  Moval said, stepping out.  "And a word of advice. You should choose your words more carefully in the future. For I have met many Starfleet officers, I cannot say the same for some of my colleagues. I'm sure they will not be as reserved as I."

Moval quickly turned, placing his back to the Lieutenant.

"Good day, Lieutenant"

Reece watched the Romulan walk away.

"Our diplomats'll be asking the same questions!" He yelled after him. "I hope you don't react the same way!"

He stayed in the turbolift and let the doors close. "Bridge." He said.

He chuckled as the lift made it's way up, he exited the lift chuckling to himself and sat down beside Cortez. "That Romulan is a pretty funny chap."

Lance had just finished deploying the appropriate specialists to the appropriate replicators, and was bent over one himself. Naturally, he would be disturbed now. He sighed as the officer approached him, straightened, turned around...

And stared straight into the face of a Romulan.

He almost audibly screamed, and then managed to get a hold of himself. His head was screaming 'get away, get away', but something told him this particular Romulan wasn't hostile. Mostly, it was the fact Krol wasn't dead yet. The fact that he was in civilian's clothes – or Krol thought they were civilian, though he didn't know if Romulans had civilians – was also a factor.

How does one react to a civilian Romulan on a Federation military ship? he wondered. Evidently, he wondered too long, because by that time the Romulan had stopped walking and started staring.

Cortez had just finished preparations for their departure and was about to head back to his quarters when Thompson sat himself down beside his command chair. His comment had him bemused.

"'Funny' isn't quite the word I would use to describe the Ambassador."

He stood and began to head towards the turbolift.

"Just make sure things go smoothly during his time with us, Lieutenant. This is an important conference"

Moval's search for his quarters was a short one. There weren't many on this deck and his was conveniently situated near the turbolift he had used to get there. However, before he could enter, a strange looking crewman garnered his attention.

"Is there something I can help you with, Crewman?"  Moval asked

He watched as Cortez stood up to move off.

"Sir. What are our orders?" He asked quickly, before Cortez left the room.
